Cavities, one of the most common dental problems, develop when bacteria erode your dental enamel. Previously, cavities were treated with an amalgam material, which is a mixture of metals, like mercury or silver. We now know that amalgam fillings do not bond very well with the enamel and the mercury can be dangerous to your overall health. At Joanna Claustro DMD & Associates in Ashburn, VA, we use tooth-colored fillings made with a composite resin to fill and protect cavities. We also can take out old metal fillings and apply composite resin fillings for safer and more attractive treatment of cavities.

What Are the Benefits of Tooth-Colored Fillings?

At our Ashburn, VA facility, we are pleased to offer individuals modern offerings in oral treatment. Natural-looking fillings are a reliable and helpful choice, supplying individuals a number of perks, like:

  • Attractive appearance that smoothly blends with your teeth
  • Shielding against decay
  • Barrier to debris and plaque accumulation
  • Swift, convenient treatment that gives long-lasting prevention

Composite resin tooth-colored fillings typically cover the decay in the enamel of the tooth once it is treated. Composite resin is a versatile material that can be used to treat other concerns with your teeth, such as chips or excessive wear on the enamel by bruxism (teeth grinding). Since the composite resin is tinted to blend with your teeth, fillings can be placed on both the front and back teeth for a seamless finish. If you have amalgam fillings, talk to Dr. Claustro about getting them removed and replaced with tooth-colored fillings.

Getting a filling at Joanna Claustro DMD & Associates is generally a simple treatment. The treatment area will be numbed with a local anesthetic to help you feel more comfortable. Stronger forms of sedation can be discussed if you have any fears or anxieties to keep you relaxed. As soon as you're prepared, the decayed enamel is treated using a dental drill that Dr. Claustro will choose based upon the location of the cavity in the tooth and the amount of decay. After the enamel is treated and the area is cleaned, the area will be replaced with the composite resin material and set. Dr. Claustro will smooth the composite resin so it matches your other teeth.

I never write reviews but I had to for this - absolutely amazing experience. Who knew a dentist could also change the way your face looks??? I have tried MANY different face treatments for melasma and aging, and I have never seen results like I did with Dr. Claustro. The Opus Plasma did wonders to diminish wrinkles and tighten my skin, with no downtime at all. I coupled my treatment with the Resurfacing treatment and just wow. Anyone that actually has melasma knows that it is never going to go away, but I have not seen anything diminish it's appearance like this and I have tried EVERYTHING. Add in the amazing staff and Dr. Claustro herself, just top notch. Run don't walk to try these treatments! You will thank me!

About Us
How long will my tooth-colored filling last?
A tooth-colored filling usually endures in good condition for about 10 – 15 years before it may become worn down and require replacement. However, our team will continue to check your fillings during regular exams to ensure they are still functioning as intended.
Are there foods I need to stay away from after getting a tooth-colored filling?
Yes. While you can go back to eating solid foods not long after getting your filling(s), there are foods you must avoid. These include hard, chewy, and sticky foods. Eating these foods before the filling has fully set risks damaging or removing the filling(s). If you have any questions about specific foods you can have after the filling and going forward, please ask Dr. Claustro.
Will my old metal amalgam fillings need to be replaced?
If your old metal fillings are no longer in good condition, they must be replaced as they are susceptible to cavities. If they are still functional, you may also want to replace them for aesthetic reasons and avoid potential exposure to metals and mercury.
